Pupil premium arrangements
Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011; it is paid by means of a specific grant based upon school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for students in receipt of free school meals (FSM) at any time in last 6 years up to year 11.
For looked after children the Pupil Premium was calculated using the Children Looked After data returns (SSDA903).
A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. This service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of these pupils. The Pupil Premium is additional to main school/academy funding and it will be used by this Academy to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.
Statistics In the Academy 2022/23 we had 561 pupils who are entitled to benefit from the additional funding, this equates to 54% of the Academy’s student population. Each entitled pupil received £9 per annum. In the year 2021-22 the Academy received £560,250 Pupil Premium funds. For the the year 2022/23 the Academy received £559,950 Pupil Premium funds. Each entitled pupil received £955 per annum.
Our Objectives for Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils. The funding will be used to narrow and close the gap between the achievement of these pupils and their peers nationally. As far as its powers allow the Academy will use the additional funding to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible for Pupil Premium and others. We will ensure that the additional funding reaches the pupils who need it most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives.

The Headteacher and Academy Governance have agreed a policy for Pupil Premium to guide the use of funds and to ensure that it represents value for money.
How Pupil Premium was spent 2021/22
Research evidence suggests that it is not simply a question of spending more to get better results. Whilst the funding is allocated on the basis of the proxy indicator relating to free school meals, we believe it is important to use the Pupil Premium within the context of a coherent whole-academy policy, identifying and implementing the most effective strategies in order to narrow the gap between the advantaged and disadvantaged.
Funding was allocated across a range of key areas in the Academy in 2020/21 including increasing teaching and support capacity through investment in staffing alongside development of long term strategies such as “Achievement for All” and “Raising Achievement of Disadvantaged Youth”. Increasing pupil’s social capital is a priority for the school and significant investment is made in ensuring extra-curricular opportunities, visits and trips are accessible to all pupils, particularly those where personal finances may be a barrier.

Investment in developing teaching and support capacity across the Academy led to substantial improvement in the quality of teaching and learning through improved staff recruitment and retention in 2021/22.
Future Strategies
Developing leadership for inclusion to ensure a sharp focus on the aspiration, access and achievement of vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils, including those identified with special education needs and disabilities.
Improve teaching and learning focus on disadvantaged students through Achievement for all and RADY Strategies leading to improved progress for all pupils.
Use of Achievement for All and family support programme to improve engagement of parents and carers through structured conversations.
Wider opportunities and outcomes – to support the participation, enjoyment and achievement of students in all elements of school life.
