Sport

The Physical Education department at NBA is a successful and dynamic subject area, consisting of six members of staff, led by Mr Conibere, the Head of Zone.

PE provides students with many opportunities to develop themselves physically, mentally and socially.  Within lessons students are challenged to participate in sports that may be new to them, that may initially be difficult, or develop existing skills to further enhance their skill set in an activity. Through PE lessons and sport at NBA, students will develop many qualities which include: improving physical fitness, self-discipline, enhancing leadership skills and respect.

At North Birmingham Academy we take great pride in the extracurricular opportunities we provide.  All pupils are actively encouraged to take part in our extracurricular programme at their own level, in order to further develop their lifelong love and participation in sport. Extracurricular clubs are open to all students.

Taking part in extracurricular can lead to students being selected to represent the school competitively.  NBA competes across Birmingham and nationally in sports such as football, basketball, netball, handball, badminton, softball and athletics.  We are also part of the Kingsbury School Sport Partnership (KSSP), who provide extensive opportunities to compete in a variety of activities against other schools, and run an extensive ‘Sports leaders’ programme for interested students.

KS3,  KS4 and KS5  students are invited to attend extracurricular activities listed below:

  • Football
  • Fitness training (in our designated fitness suite)
  • Basketball
  • Netball
  • Rounders
  • Softball
  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Rugby (supported by Wasps Community Rugby)
  • Cricket
  • Trampolining
  • Dodgeball

Activities are available to all students at various times throughout the year. Keep an eye out for the extracurricular timetable to see when and where they’re happening!!!

We are very fortunate to have some outstanding sportspeople at NBA, which has meant we have enjoyed a lot of success over recent years.  District title’s have been won at District level in football, netball and softball, and we have qualified for many of the finals days in the ‘Birmingham School Games’ each summer.

As the leader of the PE department at NBA, I am extremely proud of the effort and attitude shown by students in both lessons and extracurricular activities. Students show a great aptitude for self-improvement, and when representing NBA in competition, always rise to the occasion, whatever the challenge.

Mr Conibere
