We feel that our extra-curricular provision is a vital aspect of what we do at North Birmingham Academy. It is the extra opportunity for pupils to enhance and develop their skills; further develop their social interaction and ability to work individually or as part of a team both of which are vital life skills.
Some of our pupils use this time to challenge themselves in the Fitness room or others on the Netball court or Football pitch to name but two.
All pupils are actively encouraged to take part in our extra-curricular programme at their own level in order to further develop their lifelong love and participation in sport.

The Year 8 football squad have achieved unparalleled success this season. Hopes were high going into the new season, and the squad did not disappoint. In the District Cup, a fine 8-3 final victory over John Willmott saw the squad collect their first piece of silverware. Next up was a successful league campaign, which saw the squad streak away with the league title.
The culmination of the season was the ‘Super Cup’ final against Aston Manor, played at Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground. In an extremely tight and cagey affair, NBA eventually came out on top, 3-2 the final score. A fantastic football campaign with a great group of students. Bring on next season!!!!!
Athletics is an integral activity in summer term Physical Education. It is taught in curriculum time at between Years 7-11. It consists of a range of events in running, jumping and throwing. Pupils are taught about technique and working at maximum levels.
Competitions take place throughout the calendar year, both indoors and outdoors. Sports Day also takes place every year and is a highlight of the academic year. The events are all athletics based. This year, Sports Day is held at Alexander Stadium, an international athletics venue.
NBA Year 8 boys won the North Birmingham Athletics Championships at Arthur Terry School. All local schools were beaten, in a very strong performance.
Netball is a key activity included within the girls Physical Education curriculum at key stages 3&4, usually delivered in the Autumn Term. Due to its popularity in lessons, an extra-curricular Netball club runs after school for the majority of the Academic Year.
This is a highly attended session with girls from a mixture of year groups attending. Sport specific techniques are practiced, along with match playing skills.
Matches against local schools are organised and take place throughout the year, with many successes for our girls. North Birmingham Academy’s Netball team’s year 7/8 and year 9/10 are entered into partnership tournaments against local schools. Two competitions are taking place in the summer term.
